MBV COFFEE, DONUTS AND LATEST NEWS

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

All announcements by Lifestyle Director Julie Rychener unless otherwise indicated.

Good morning. We have a Board Meeting following Coffee & News so lets get started with Cis Haines.

Board Announcements by Cis Haines
(condensed)

●  Sometimes you come up here and you have to say something bad but today it is good news.  There will be no more busses to the Sewer Hearings.  For those of you who don't know, we didn't win big but we won.  The Corporation Commission voted 4-1 to reduce the rates from $60.67 to $52.00.  While $52.00 is still a bit high, it is a victory of sorts because when they come back to do this again, they know they will have a fight on their hands.  You might want to remember Chairman Mike Gleason was the only one who voted no on the rate reduction, at least I am going to remember his name.

●  There is a new planter outside the main door of the Superstition Center. People were driving their vehicles up on the patio so the planter was added.  We will be adding plants to it in the near future.

●  As you all know today is the Board Meeting and we have a few things on the agenda you may be interested in.  We have bids for pool fence painting and pool fence repair.  We have some bids for pest control and termite service.  We are going to discuss the contract for the floor repairs of the Pool/Bathhouse so come join us after the coffee for the always lively discussion.

●  Jim Mosier-Gold Canyon Arts Council:  Every year, for our Arts Festival the last 4 years, we have purchased a commemorative poster.  We make it a practice of taking the numbers 1 and 2 and presenting them to individuals  or organizations  in the Gold Canyon area in recognition of their support.  This year Mountainbrook Village was selected as one of our two honorees.  You have received poster number 2 and it was presented to Al Clark on Friday night at our Eric Bibb concert.  The artist is Carla Gibson of Gold Canyon and it is a depiction of barns of our past.  We wish to honor the deep commitment that Mountainbrook Village has to the arts in general.   Thank you.  You should be proud of yourselves.
NEW RESIDENTS:

●
There were two new families this morning, one from Kansas and one all the way from Alaska.  Welcome!

ANNOUNCEMENTS and INTEREST:
● I was asked to announce that there will be a memorial service for Joyce Olofson on Saturday, November 22 at 3pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on Kings Ranch Road in the new shopping area across from Walgreens.

● Guardian Angels:  Brodie Broderson announced he is retiring so that he can do some entertaining on the cruise ships.  When he told his other Guardian Angels the news (they are all ladies), they don't want to walk the street without him so they are also retiring.  We tried to get people to join but you guys are all so busy with other things.  Thank you for all the good times you gave us.

●  Gold Canyon and Apache Junction Food Bank are both in dire need of non-perishable food items.  I am collecting things in my office so if you have anything you would like to donate, please drop them off in my office.

●  Cook Books: Are still for sale and are great for Christmas giving.  See the ladies here today or come to the office to purchase.

● Volunteers are still needed to assist Ralph Krueger with the Christmas Luminaries. There is a sign up sheet I am passing around now for assembling them on December 18 and distributing them on the 19th. They will be put out on the 24th, and picked up the 25th.

Thanksgiving Dinner tickets are now on sale for $10 each.  Dinner is at 3 pm and there are a few tickets left and this will be catered by East Valley Catering.  I
need some clean up volunteers and someone to be here to open the doors for the residents and opening the kitchen for the caterers.

Vera Walters - Central Arizona College spoke about the classes that are offered and also invited everyone to come over in February  and enjoy soup.  There are about 30 crock pots of homemade soup for your enjoyment and all the money that is raised is donated to a scholarship fund that pays for college tuition.

Get Fit Stay Fit Challenge - Folks are here this morning to sign you up and answer any questions you may have.

●  Patty from Especially 4 U Travel:  Good Morning everyone.  I have some brochures and flyers up here for you to come up and take a look at.  There is also a special Travel section when you go online to www.mountainbrookvillage.org and click on Travel which will keep you up to date on our tours.  Thank you very much and I will see you again next Tuesday
