MountainBrook Home Break-In Report
Back in
November, a home located on the MountainBrook perimeter was
broken into sometime between midnight and 2 AM, and a
substantial amount of jewelry was taken. The thieves also
left the house in disarray during their search for valuable
items. After burglarizing this residence the thieves rang
several doorbells of houses nearby to see if anyone was at home,
presumably to break into them as well. The owners at one
of these houses turned on their outside front light and saw one
or more of the thieves run down the street to their car and
drive away.
In analyzing
related information, other MountainBrook residents have reported
receiving late night phone calls where the caller hung up when
they answered the phone. We are assuming that the thieves
were calling around to determine if anyone was at home at these
particular houses. In spite of the fact that most of us
don’t publicize our phone numbers widely, our phone numbers and
addresses are accessible to would be thieves in internet
public telephone directories. Perhaps this approach
to breaking into houses is not a new one, but it is the first
time it has been used at MountainBrook that we are aware of.
If you see any suspicious activity late at night, we strongly
encourage you to call the Sheriff’s Office, Apache Junction Sub
Station, Kings Ranch Road, (480) 982-0570; or 911.
Suspicious activity includes: several phone calls late at night
where the caller hangs up, people ringing your door bell that
you are not expecting, people walking/running around on or near
your property that probably don’t live or have reason to be in
the community, and cars and pick up trucks parked on your street
that are suspicious. Give the police all identifying
information that you can even if it is sketchy. At night
it’s difficult to see everything, but every little bit of
information helps. PLEASE don’t hesitate to call the
sheriff’s office. Information that you have about possible
robbery activity that you may think is unimportant may be the
part of the puzzle that results in the arrest of burglars.
Finally, if your doorbell rings late at night, we recommend that
you turn on your outside lights first, verify who is at your
door, and only then unlock/open it if you are comfortable doing
that. If you see or experience any of the above things we
would ask that you also talk to your neighborhood Block Watch
Captain or Block Watch Committee Member.
Committee Meetings are held the first
Monday of the month at 2:00 pm in the Library Room.
