An example of what it does is evaluate the CDs and resumes that prospective entertainers for MBV submit to the Activities Director.  Committee members assist in various aspects of planning special theme events. This Committee also researches and recommends a variety of outside entertainment and travel opportunities.

Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 10:00am in the Library Board Room.

Architectural Committee

The Board of Directors has recently approved some changes to the Architectural Standards as recommended by the Architectural Review Committee. Some of the changes were considered to be “housekeeping” changes due to the community recently being built out or to clarify language. All changes were made in an effort to keep the aesthetics of the community at its best, while incorporating new ideas as the community evolves. An entire new publication of the Architectural Standards will be sent out to all homes this spring and will replace any current Architectural Standards you have in your possession. Following are some of the larger changes that were approved:

  • Homeowners will now be allowed to add any option to their home that was originally available at the time of construction. This includes additions to the front of the home on the Picacho and Bellmont models.
  • Homes which are currently travertine with stone beige trim will be allowed to reverse these colors thereby making the body color of the home stone beige and the trim travertine.
  • Ficus (benjamina) will be permitted in the BACK YARDS ONLY.

Please look for the new publication of the Architectural Standards in the spring. It is very important that you keep these for your records and use them to help guide you when turning in an architectural submittal.

Also, please keep in mind that all changes or modifications to the exterior of your home or to your landscaping MUST go through the Architectural Review Committee for approval prior to installation.

Meetings are held on alternate Thursdays of the month at 10:00am in Palo Verde Room.

MountainBrook Home Break-In Report

Back in November, a home located on the MountainBrook perimeter was broken into sometime between midnight and 2 AM, and a substantial amount of jewelry was taken.  The thieves also left the house in disarray during their search for valuable items.  After burglarizing this residence the thieves rang several doorbells of houses nearby to see if anyone was at home, presumably to break into them as well.  The owners at one of these houses turned on their outside front light and saw one or more of the thieves run down the street to their car and drive away.

In analyzing related information, other MountainBrook residents have reported receiving late night phone calls where the caller hung up when they answered the phone.  We are assuming that the thieves were calling around to determine if anyone was at home at these particular houses.  In spite of the fact that most of us don’t publicize our phone numbers widely, our phone numbers and addresses are accessible to would be thieves in  internet public telephone directories.   Perhaps this approach to breaking into houses is not a new one, but it is the first time it has been used at MountainBrook that we are aware of.

If you see any suspicious activity late at night, we strongly encourage you to call the Sheriff’s Office, Apache Junction Sub Station, Kings Ranch Road, (480) 982-0570; or 911.  Suspicious activity includes: several phone calls late at night where the caller hangs up, people ringing your door bell that you are not expecting, people walking/running around on or near your property that probably don’t live or have reason to be in the community, and cars and pick up trucks parked on your street that are suspicious.  Give the police all identifying information that you can even if it is sketchy.  At night it’s difficult to see everything, but every little bit of information helps.  PLEASE don’t hesitate to call the sheriff’s office.  Information that you have about possible robbery activity that you may think is unimportant may be the part of the puzzle that results in the arrest of  burglars.

Finally, if your doorbell rings late at night, we recommend that you turn on your outside lights first, verify who is at your door, and only then unlock/open it if you are comfortable doing that.  If you see or experience any of the above things we would ask that you also talk to your neighborhood Block Watch Captain or Block Watch Committee Member.

Committee Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at 2:00 pm in the Library Room.
