Aerobics for the Mind is a once-a-month lecture series. It is held in the Sunset Room from 10-11:30 am on the first Saturday of the month. Artist of the Month
Your MBV Library invites painters, quilters, potters, woodworkers, glassworkers, jewelers, etc., to display their artistic items in your MBV Library. The artist can be one person or a group and can be the featured "Artist of the Month" in the Mountaineer. During the summer months, MBV potters and ceramic groups will display their works. MBV Band is a concert band. Rehearsal/concert season is October through March. Auditions are not required, but the expectation is that members are able to read music and have their own instrument. The MBV Book Discussion group meets 1 - 2 pm, in the Mesquite Room, every second Wednesday of the month, October through April. Check the Mountaineer for future book topics, but remember it is not necessary to have read the book nor vital to participate. You are always invited to walk in and enjoy a lively discussion. We play every Friday, 1 - 4 pm, in the Sunset Room, year round. If you want to learn, we will be happy to teach you the game; it's easy to learn and everyone has lots of fun. Ceramacists take an already formed clay body and decorate it in a variety of ways. The MBV Ceramic Group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Fired Arts Studio, 1 - 4 pm, and some Saturdays for the open workshop where members share their knowledge. Tuesday mornings after C&N are reserved for orientation sessions for newcomers to the group. The group carries some basic supplies funded by a monthly fee and the firing fee. This is a dedicated group of volunteers who process over 800 resident-donated items and 2000 return items per month. Recent edition books in good condition and DVD's are always welcomed and very popular with residents. If any donated items not used here at MBV, they are donated to the Vets, care centers, hospitals, and schools. The Library is open every day, 6 am - 10 pm. After office hours, you can enter by using your fob at the east entrance of the building. Helping Hands is a network of community volunteers whose purpose is to provide, through volunteer effort, short-term support for home-bound residents, recuperating patients from hospitalizations, and particularly those folks who have no one at home to help them, no family nearby, or only a small network of older friends who might be able to help. When all else fails, Helping Hands can be available to the above while searching for a more permanent means of being able to maintain a quality of life within the home. Do you like to knit, cross stitch, quilt, bead, or make dolls? Everyone is welcome to join us on the first Wednesday of each month, September to May. We meet in the Mesquite Room, 1 - 3 pm. Open Studio for Painters meets every Thursday, 9 am - 3 pm, October through March in the Sagebrush Room. Bring your paints, pencils, pastels or whatever supplies and join other painters for a time of "art talk" and camaraderie. All mediums, skill levels, and styles are welcome and you can come for all day or just drop in. No formal instruction but positive support from fellow artists. MBV residents have three weekly opportunities to play pinochle. All three are held in the Sunset Room. Women play at 1 pm each Tuesday, a double deck group at 6:30 pm each Wednesday, and the traditional group at 7 pm each Thursday. All three groups welcome newcomers. No advance signup is needed; just show up by a few minutes before start time. Youw ill find cordial folks who will help you adapt to our style of play. The Superstition Mountain Quilters, located in MBV, meet the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. We make quilts and pillowcases to be donated to our local charities in apache Junction. Texas Hold 'em is played in the Palo Verde Room on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and the second Sunday at 12:30 pm. Ladies play on Tuesday at the same time and place. There is a potluck and Texas Home 'em Tournament once a month on the last Sunday of the month. Join us at 12:30 pm in the Sunset Room. The MBV Players traditionally perform a play every year in February. the group is open to all MBV homeowners. Actors are volunteers who enjoy the challenge of acting out the role of another person; they enjoy the camaraderie of acting together as a team. They enjoy the applause knowing that they have entertained an audience. The MBV Players are also looking for (light duty) behind-the-scenes volunteers to assist with play production. The MBV Voices usually perform twice each year--once at Christmas and once in the spring. We practice Wednesday afternoons from 2:45 - 5 pm in the Superstition Center, September through Spring. You need not audition, just lave a love to sing and have a great time. Successful Women's Investment Club in MBV has openings for new members. Computer skills are required. This is a chance to learn how to invest your savings wisely. Monthly meetings are both business and social. If interested, call Membership Chairperson, Jerrydean Mercer at 480-288-9746.
